 New Storage Terms Announced

(Toronto, February 27, 2003)... Storage fees for ocean shipments at Canadian terminals operated by CN & CP are likely unavoidable following two recent developments:

  • CN and CP have reduced the free storage time allowance at their Canadian terminals

  • Under AMPS, shipments cannot be presented for Customs clearance prior to the physical arrival of the goods at the terminal

The additional storage costs will have to be passed on to the importer.

As of March 1, 2003, the following free time allowance will be applicable to all
CN and CP Canadian Terminals.

CN: 3 days for Standard Containers

2 days for Containers requiring Protective Services

** No exception for Weekends and Holidays

CP: 3 days for Standard Containers

2 days for Containers requiring Protective Services

** Excluding Weekends and Holidays
(Weekends and Holidays included once storage commences)

Please note, Free Time begins at 7:00 A.M. after the day of arrival for both CN and CP.

Should you require any further information on this issue, please do not hesitate to
