| CAF Surcharge
on UK/European Ocean Shipments |
|
(Toronto, January 22, 2004)
A
Currency Adjustment Factor (CAF) surcharge of 9% has been
announced by Member Lines of several Conferences, on the
Canada - United Kingdom and the Canada - European Continent
trade lanes, effective February 1, 2004.
The CAF charge will apply to FCL/LCL ocean traffic and
will be passed directly to the importer/exporter. The lines
say they introduced the charge to recoup losses resulting
from the weakening US Dollar (In the past 12 months, the
US Dollar has fallen 19% against the Euro and Canadian
Dollar and 10% against the UK Pound).
On behalf of our Clients, we will monitor the situation
to ensure the CAF adjustment is in line with market conditions.
