| Valid Business
Number Required on Export Declarations |
|
(Toronto, April 14, 2004)
Exporters
must ensure that a valid 9-digit Business Number (BN) with
activated import/export account identifier, RM, followed
by a 4-digit number, is quoted on all B13A Export Declarations
when reporting exports to the Canada Border Services Agency.
Here is an example of a complete BN and RM – BN 123456789 RM0001.
The CBSA reports that a number of exporters are not using
a valid BN or import/export account identifier. Failure
to provide the proper number may result in penalties under
the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS).
You may already have an RM account identifier that has
been activated for an import account only. To check the
status of your BN or to activate an import/export account
identifier, call the CBSA Business Window at 1-800-959-5525.
