| Handling fees
announced by Montreal Gateway Terminals |
|
(Montreal, July 16, 2004)...
Effective July 19, 2004, Montreal Gateway Terminals will
be charging a handling fee for Canadian Food Inspection
Agency (CFIA) inspections on the terminal. The
process and fee of CAD $150/$115 USD, for each import
container
selected for an inspection at the pier, will be billed
directly by Montreal Gateway Terminals to the customer.
Holds on containers will be placed by the terminal and
will only be released upon receipt of the guarantee of
payment from the customer and the release from the CFIA.
The CFIA have also implemented an on dock inspection fee
in the amount of CAD $20.70/$16 USD per container
including tax which will be separately invoiced by the
steamship
lines and the container will be released upon receipt of
payment.
The charges are for the following
services:
| |
 |
labor and equipment
to segregate unit in a reserved safe zone area |
| |
 |
sorting and shifting
in piles to retrieve targeted container (if container
is selected after unloading vessel) |
| |
 |
return to import pile or set on
ground for manual examination |
| |
 |
if required, opening/closing
container doors and removing/replacing blocking, making
cargo available and opening cartons or cases |
| |
 |
delivery to inland carrier |
| |
 |
3 days if traffic deramped between
04:00 Friday and 03:59 Monday |
| |
 |
documentation and clerical work. |
Montreal Gateway Terminals say the charges are the result
of extra work the terminal must do to meet a “surge
in examinations” by Government Agencies.
