| South Africa to introduce new wood packaging regulations |
|
(Toronto, November 5, 2004)
Effective January 1, 2005, South Africa will implement the International Standard on Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM15), "Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade". This means that all raw wood packaging material entering and leaving South Africa will have to be treated and marked in accordance with the requirements of ISPM 15. Visit the following web site for details: www.ippc.int
The purpose of the new guidelines is to protect South Africa’s environment, economy and people from the introduction of pests and diseases carried in wood packaging made of unprocessed raw wood.
