| Time to forward 2005 NAFTA Certificates of Origin |
|
(Toronto, December 13, 2004)
To maintain the duty-free status of your NAFTA qualifying imports in 2005, please forward your 2005 Certificates to our office as soon as possible.
A 2004 Blanket Certificate is not valid for 2005 shipments. Shipments arriving in Canada without a valid NAFTA Certificate are subject to duty upon import.
Shipments claiming preferential treatment without a valid NAFTA Certificate are subject to an AMPS (Administrative Monetary Penalty System) penalty of $1,000 for a first infraction and escalating penalties for repeat infractions.
If a Certificate is obtained post import, a claim to recover the duties paid may be presented to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for up to one year after import. Duty is refundable, penalties are not.
If you have already forwarded all of your 2005 Blanket NAFTA Certificates to our office, thank you.
