| Grace period
for AMPS extended to October 7, 2002 |

(Ottawa, April
2, 2002)... The Canada Customs
and Revenue Agency (CCRA) has extended the grace period
for AMPS (Administrative Monetary Penalty System) from April 2002
to October 7, 2002.
The extension is necessary because both
the CCRA and the importing community need more time to prepare
for the legislation, which will impose a more diligent approach
to enforcement with potentially severe penalties for even
a single infraction.
Importers now have the benefit of additional
time to ensure their internal systems are fully compliant
under all CCRA regulations.
