(Toronto, May 23, 2003)
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) has added Canada to the list of BSE restricted countries,
following the detection of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy
(BSE, also known as Mad Cow Disease) on a farm in Alberta
earlier this week. As a result, Canadian exports
to the USA of animal-related products may be prohibited
entry.
For a complete list of prohibited products, please

Since 1986, countries identified by the FDA as BSE have
not been allowed to export to the USA live cattle and other
ruminant animals, beef and other meat derived from ruminants,
and products containing processed animal protein.
Canadian origin milk, milk products and ruminant hide-derived
products are still allowed into the USA.
