| FDA registration
mandatory for food products |
|
(Markham - October 24, 2003)
Facilities
that manufacture, process, pack or hold food destined for
human or animal consumption in the United States must be
registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
by December 12, 2003.
Shipments arriving in the USA on or after December 12,
2003 from unregistered facilities will be held at the port
of entry unless the FDA or U.S. Customs directs otherwise. All
charges for subsequent moves/storage will be borne by the
importer. Moreover, attempting to import food products
into the USA on or after December 12, 2003 without proper
registration is prohibited and may be subject to civil
or criminal sanctions.
To apply for registration, any company outside the U.S.
must have an assigned U.S. Agent (e.g. U.S. affiliate,
buyer, customs broker, etc.). Call Brian Rowe (905-882-4880)
if you require assistance.
You can register electronically, at no cost, by going
to the following page on the FDA web site: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~furls/ovffreg.html.
