| Anti-dumping
ruling against Chinese manufacturers of fasteners |
|
(Toronto, July 15, 2004)
The
Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has issued
a preliminary determination of injury against certain fasteners
originating in, or exported from, China and Chinese Taipei.
The subject fasteners are screws, nuts and bolts of carbon
steel or stainless steel that are used to mechanically
join two or more elements, excluding fasteners specifically
designed for application in the automotive or aerospace
industry.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) estimated margins
of dumping for the period from January 1, 2003, to December
31, 2003, when expressed as a percentage of the export
price, were 103 percent for China and 180 percent for Chinese
Taipei.
If the CITT finds that the subject fasteners are being "dumped",
i.e. sold to Canada at less than home market value, and
are causing material injury to domestic manufacturers,
additional duties based upon CBSA estimated margins will
apply.
