The Canadian Auto Workers
(CAW) union announced today that its members have rejected
three tentative agreements signed by CAW and CN on Jan.
23, 2004. CAW’s existing contracts expired on Dec.
31, 2003.
If the parties fail to reach a new tentative agreement
by 0001 hours Feb. 20, 2004, CAW's 5,000 members, including
shopcraft, clerical and intermodal yard employees, will
launch a labour action.
CN has contingency plans to maintain freight services
during a CAW strike.
