Here is the latest update on the backlogs at Vancouver
ports:
- Centerm: 12,000' on dock by today, P&O Ports
expects they will be cleaned-up. A few problems remain
with truck
gates, but the rail situation is back under control.
- Vanterm: 16,000' on dock. CP car supply good until
yesterday; thereafter Vanterm is not sure what will
be supplied to them in terms of rolling stock. They
expected 7,900' on ground by the end of yesterday, and
have
a
small Cosco vessel coming in at end of week, but
they expect to be okay.
- Deltaport: 66,000' CN on dock. 42,000' of CN
stock promised through Friday. 52,000' CP on dock. CP
promised a supply of 7,800' per day of rolling stock.
This
means there will be a backlog of some 33,000' by
Friday to
remain on dock for the weekend. Remember: The docks
will be closed on Victoria Day. Next week will
be critical
with some fairly large ships expected in.
- Fraser-Surrey: Things are not improving as rapidly
as at the other terminals. There are 67,500'
CP and 5,000' CN on dock.
Taken together, the backlog
at the ports equates to a total of 72,500', which is
starting to
max out the container
terminal storage capability and resulting
in having to block areas used for break bulk cargoes.
Progress
is
slow; only a couple of thousand feet per
switch
per day (i.e. 4-5,000' per day with two daily
switches). In addition,
TMM Tabasco is expected in the very early
morning hours of today with an additional 14,000'. That
will take the
on-dock rail total to 85,000'.
