| Public service workers in strike position |
|
(Toronto, October 12, 2004)
Effective midnight last night, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) was in a legal strike position, which could potentially affect more than 130,000 workers in various Government Departments across Canada.
While Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) employees are represented by the PSAC, those who provide essential services at the border are legally obliged to report to work as scheduled. Nevertheless, work-to-rule slow-downs are expected across the board at the border level and delays should be expected. To determine the back-log at each border point, go online and visit this site:
www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html for estimated wait times to cross the Canada-United States land border.
Rotating strikes by non-essential employees will occur with no advance notice of the exact location being affected.
Strike updates will be provided as they become available.
