| Canada considering surtax on some U.S. imports |

International Trade Canada is seeking comments from Canadian businesses on possible trade retaliation against the USA in light of that country's failure to comply with the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on the Byrd Amendment.
Canada will consider the application of a either a 100% surtax on certain imports from the USA, or removing the "injury" requirement from anti-dumping and/or countervailing cases.
The 100% surtax (if utilized) would be on a variety of goods ranging from live animals and foodstuffs to textiles and home electronics. For a proposed list of the goods selected refer to the following link of the Canada Gazette of November 23, 2004:
