| CN promises to clear container backlog at Deltaport/Vancouver |
|
(Deltaport/Vancouver, January 31, 2005)
Deltaport continues to dig out from a massive container backlog with the help of extra rail cars and an additional weekly train provided by Canadian National Railway.
The Vancouver Port Authority says the backlog has eased to "just under 5,000" containers, the number stuck on the docks when the operator declared force majeure last week. At the time, it blamed CN for not providing enough railcars to meet the flood of Chinese imports and exports.
TSI and CN are also examining long term operational changes at Deltaport, to increase efficiency.
