 Vancouver containers keep piling up

(Vancouver, July 6, 2005)… The backlog of containers at the Port of Vancouver is continuing to build since mediated contract talks broke off yesterday.  Over 1,000 truck rigs are parked, pending a resolution of the dispute, putting a halt to local Vancouver container deliveries.  Containers destined for locations other than Vancouver are moving out of the port via rail with little disruption.

CN Rail have advised the ports of Halifax and Montreal not to load containers destined for their domestic Vancouver Intermodal Terminal (VIT) for local distribution – which will only add to the port congestion –- until the dispute has been settled.
