North American Enforcement of Wood Packaging Regulations

(Ottawa, July 13, 2005)… The phase-in period of current Wood Packaging Regulations will continue until September 16, 2005.  Thereafter, shipments containing non-compliant wood packaging materials may be ordered returned to the country of origin.  All associated costs will be the responsibility of the importer or entity in care and control of the shipment.

The new regulations (based upon the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15: Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade) are being phased-in throughout North America simultaneously to ensure harmonization with the international standard, and will become effective continent wide on September 16, 2005.
