| Local containers begin moving at Port of Vancouver |
|
(Vancouver, August 4, 2005)
The Port of Vancouver expects to begin moving local containers after about half of the region's motor carriers said they would sign an agreement ending a five-week strike by independent drivers.
The breakthrough came after 25 of 49 companies, which employ about 500 drivers, promised to sign a memorandum of agreement proposed by a facilitator.
The Vancouver Port Authority has also issued a statement that it will require a special interim license for carriers to collect containers at the port. Carriers without such a license will be denied access.
