Enforcement date of Wood Packaging Regulations begins soon
(Ottawa, August 5, 2005) Effective September 16, 2005, all shipments entering Canada (from anywhere other than the USA) may be ordered returned to the country of origin if they do not comply with new Wood Packaging regulations. All expenses for the return of the wood packaging and accompanying cargo will be bourne by the importer or entity in care and control of the shipment.
The effective date of September 16th applies to the date of import, not the date of shipping, i.e. goods arriving in Canada on/after September 16th will be subject to the new regulations.
To avoid the possibility of delayed shipments and extra costs for re-exportation, ensure foreign vendors use compliant wood packaging materials.
