  Toronto cartage situation update

(Toronto, September 21, 2005)…

Greater Toronto Area (GTA ) Owner/Operators Dispute

Since late last week owner/operators have been in negotiations with cartage companies, demanding higher compensation.  During this period, many owner/operators have not reported to work and information pickets were set up at Toronto terminals, which has disrupted the flow of cargo in the GTA.

The latest information states the GTA trucking companies have now reached an agreement with the new committee, CCA - Container Carriers Association, representing the owner/operators.

The agreement calls for an increase in pay to the owner/operators of 33% in the GTA and 25% for highway moves.

The consensus is the majority of trucking companies will sign the agreement, and truck operations will return to normal over the next few days.

We will continue to update on this situation.

CP Vaughn Terminal Update

Canadian Pacific Railway has reached a settlement with their third party drayage provider, ending a labour dispute that had disrupted the flow of cargo at CP Vaughn terminal.

CP state they are now operating with a full fleet at CP Vaughn, and advise the terminal is open and fluid to all intermodal carriers.
