Federal Government to introduce legislation to end CN strike
(Montreal, February 23, 2007) The federal government issued a back-to-work notice to the United Transportation Union (UTU), and has tabled a bill in Parliament to end the CN strike.
Passage of the bill would require the unanimous consent of all parties, given the Conservative government minority standing, thus passage is far from guaranteed.
At the same time union infighting has resulted in more than 300 conductors and yard workers crossing picket lines and returning to work.
The movement of cargo across Canada remains severely compromised, as the return of this small number of UTU members has had little effect on the situation.
More updates will be issued as the situation evolves. For more information, please call (905) 882-4880 David Lychek, Manager – Ocean Services.
