| CN Rail workers implement rotating strike |
|
(Toronto, April 11, 2007)
Members of the United Transportation Union (UTU), representing CN conductors and yard workers, overwhelmingly rejected a tentative agreement on Tuesday, April 10. The tentative agreement had ended a walk out on February 24, following the federal government plan to introduce back-to-work legislation.
The UTU began a work stoppage on February 10, after a wage agreement offered by the UTU was rejected by CN, which felt the demand was out of line with private sector settlements.
The union has stated it will begin rotating strikes across the country, but confirmed commuter service in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will not be affected.
CN has advised it has a contingency plan in place, and will use management employees to ensure services are not affected.
We will continue to monitor this situation and advise accordingly. For more information, please call (905) 882-4880 David Lychek, Manager – Ocean & Air Services.
