(Toronto, June 12, 2007) About 3,200 Canadian Pacific Railway workers, who maintain track, bridges and structures, could be back to work soon, after the Teamsters Union agreed to take down picket lines during the ratification vote.
The company had used management crews to conduct routine track inspections and repair work, but it put on hold major capital projects that are normally done during the summer on Canadian railways. The union said the walkout slowed operations across the railway, but industry analysts said it had not reduced freight traffic volumes on the smaller of Canada's two national rail carriers.
CP is in preliminary stages of negotiations for a new contract with its locomotive engineers in Canada.
