| 72-hour strike notice released by CN locomotive engineers |
|
(Toronto, November 26, 2009)
CN locomotive engineers have announced plans to go on strike November 28, 2009.
The engineers, members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), have rejected the latest offer from CN, which included one work rule change (increasing the engineers' monthly mileage cap) and a wage increase of 1.5 per cent, effective November 28, 2009. CN believes the union should agree to binding arbitration.
CN is a key service provider at Canada's three main ports of entry; Halifax, Montreal & Vancouver, providing rail links to the rest of Canada, and points in the U.S.. Delays will be inevitable, however, should a strike occur, CN says it will attempt to provide the best service possible.
Watch for updates as last-minute offers and/or resolutions are possible.
