Government announces plans to end CN strike with back-to-work legislation
(Toronto, November 30, 2009) The federal government is getting ready to introduce back-to-work legislation that would end the strike launched last Saturday by Canadian National Railway's 1,700 locomotive engineers.
A government spokesperson said the legislation was necessary because the strike presents a threat to Canada's recovery from the global recession.
The bill would order an immediate end to the strike and refer all outstanding issues to binding arbitration.
CN supervisors and managers kept trains running over the weekend, but delays are expected if the strike continues.
