Labor dispute stops operations at the Port of Montreal
(Toronto, July 20, 2010) A growing labor dispute between Port of Montreal longshoremen and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) has stopped operations at the Port of Montreal operations. Containers were not moving this morning and the longshoremen have announced that they will stay away from work until they have a new work agreement with the MEA. It is unknown when the two sides will meet again. The grain terminal, which is operated by the Montreal Port Authority, will continue operations as usual. More than 90 per cent of the goods imported for sale in Quebec and eastern Ontario are unloaded in Montreal's harbour.
We will continue to monitor the situation and advise accordingly.
