India's largest container port closed after collision

(Toronto, August 11, 2010)… Port operations in Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) have been suspended after two vessels collided on Saturday, 8 km off the coast of Mumbai.  The collision has created an oil spill in the area and resulted in 200 to 400 containers being tossed overboard from the container ship MSC Chitra.  Vessel movements are at a standstill, as Indian authorities begin salvage operations. It is expected this cleanup should be completed by August 15, at which point port operations will resume.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and advise accordingly.
