Duty savings on tech and information related products

Toronto, July 7, 2016

Tariff rate reductions are being phased in on tech and information related products, including audiovisual products and parts, vacuum parts, flight simulators, telecommunication products, software, media-storage devices, medical devices, touch-screen devices and medical equipment.  The phase in period, which commenced July 1, 2016, will continue until July 1, 2018.

The tariff reductions, listed on Customs Notice 16-16, are part of the Information Technology Agreement (ITA), announced by International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland on July 4, 2016.

Clients of Universal Logistics can request a Tariff Impact Study, based on 2015/2016 imports, to identify duty savings resulting from the tariff cuts.
