USA/Canada Trade War – Canada announces 25 percent counter-tariff on US vehicles - Universal Logistics Trade Alerts - April 4, 2025

Toronto, April 4, 2025

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, announced new countermeasures to a similar vehicle tariff placed by the U.S.. These countermeasures include:

  • 25 percent tariffs on non-CUSMA compliant fully assembled vehicles imported into Canada from the United States.
  • 25 percent tariffs on non-Canadian and non-Mexican content of CUSMA compliant fully assembled vehicles imported into Canada from the United States.

Vehicle parts are exempt from these countermeasures.

Specific dates of implementation will be provided as information becomes available.
