India port workers postpone strike

Trade unions representing dockworkers at various major ports in India reportedly agreed to defer a nationwide indefinite strike scheduled for April 19 until May 12, following preliminary talks with officials from the Ministry of Labour on Monday.

At the meeting, the chief labour commissioner suggested union representatives have another round of negotiations with officials from the Indian Ports Association (IPA) on April 21, in an attempt to reach a settlement. The IPA is the umbrella body for all major ports in the country.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and advise accordingly.
