Backlogs at port of Vancouver terminals

Problems at the Vanterm, Centerm and Deltaport terminals are causing major backlogs in the port of Vancouver. The biggest issue is the inability of the railway service to provide efficient switching at the terminals.

Switching is the process of moving empty and laden rail cars in and out of the port’s container terminals. This backlog in rail switching has resulted in significant delays to ship arrivals and unloading operations, and has negatively impacted the flow of intermodal cargo out of Vancouver.

The carry-on impacts of the backlogs are expected to last until the Chinese New Year at the end of January.

If you have any questions concerning shipments booked with Universal Logistics and how they may be impacted by the above, please call Debbie McGuire, Manager – Freight Solutions (905) 882-4880, ext. 308.
