Canada and European Union move closer to final approval of trade deal

A port workers union is threatening to shut down major ports on the U.S. Atlantic Coast next week if long standing grievances are not resolved. The threatened action, announced earlier this week by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILS), would impact ports from Texas to Maine.

The ILS has made two demands:

  • eliminate the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbour
  • end the use of state workers by the South Carolina Port Authority

The union has not announced the actual date of the strike and a supporting march in Washington.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and advise accordingly.
