India port workers poised to strike

The unions representing workers at several major ports in India have announced that they will go on indefinite strike tomorrow. The strike action is a result of the restructuring of the country’s port system, as well as the unions demands for improved job security and enhanced retirement benefits. The affected ports include Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Tuticorin, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Kandla and Marmugao.
