We would like to advise you of significant operational disruptions currently affecting ports and transportation networks in Eastern China as a result of Typhoon Dolphin.
The typhoon has caused port closures and operational suspensions in the Shanghai and Ningbo areas, with vessels moved to anchorage and terminal operations temporarily restricted. Although the storm has now moved inland, the resulting backlog is expected to continue impacting vessel schedules and port operations as terminals work to clear accumulated cargo and vessel queues.
The current impacts include:
- Vessel delays and revised sailing schedules
- Vessel bunching and increased congestion at affected ports
- Berthing and terminal delays as operations return to normal
- Cargo rollovers and potential changes to scheduled vessel departures
- Potential schedule disruptions extending beyond the immediate storm period
Industry sources are currently indicating that the recovery of operations at Shanghai and Ningbo may extend through mid-to-late August, as terminals work through the congestion.
As a result, shipments originating from, or transiting through, affected Chinese ports may experience significant delays, and published ETDs/ETAs should be considered subject to change.
Our team is closely monitoring the situation with our overseas agents and ocean carriers, and will provide updates on shipments as additional information becomes available. For shipments currently in transit or scheduled to depart from China, we recommend allowing additional time for potential delays and schedule changes.
