NRCan, Natural Resources Canada

NRCan governs Canada’s Energy Efficiency Act and Energy Efficiency Regulations which prohibit the importation of certain energy-using products unless specific requirements are met by importers/dealers.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is one of 15 Canadian government agencies, known formally as OGDs (Other Government Departments), that are involved in the movement of various commodities in and out of Canada.

A company that imports a regulated, energy using product into Canada must transmit to NRCan information about the product (Name, Model Number, Brand name, Purpose, etc).

If the information is incomplete or if the product does not meet energy efficiency standards, the product may not be cleared and a Administrative Monetary Penalty (AMPS) may apply.
