U.S. agrees to remove controversial meat labelling law

After the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that a U.S. meat labelling law constituted unfair competition, President Obama has signed a bill that will end the law.

Had Obama not acted, Canada could have sought $1 billion in trade sanctions awarded by the WTO.  U.S. legislators introduced the controversial labelling law to ensure buyers of meat products in the U.S. could distinguish between U.S. and Canadian beef and would thus be more likely to buy U.S. products.
